chicago revisited
went to chicago again with the ASCE people. Heather is running for VP. lol neway Kris drove there and we had 4 vans. kris, qiang, heather, tara, connae and i were in one. real stuffy at the back. took a 4 hour ride over there.
finally reaching chicago wouldya look at those skyscrapers

the view was different from the last time we were there during new years eve. ^^ emo flashback
thats navy pier over there where we celebrated NY eve. out in the cold with haagen daz waiting for the countdown

happy we arrived safe and sound! haha. tara jennings, edine ho and heather deanso this was an engineering/ architecture tour so yeah we went around looking at buildings no time to shop or nething. we were taken to look at the site of the aqua building. pretty cool cause you see those wavy white stuff? those are the balconies made that way so that the residents can see more view than they actually can. kind of. your view is kind of restricted with the usual balconies right? so this way you can lean out more i suppose. and all balconies are wheelchair accessible. how thoughtful.. this is just 20/80 stories. buildings here are SO SO TALL!

then suddenly a fire engine pulled up next to us...

the further back we walked the more we could see the effect that gives the building the 'aqua' name. the windows used.. some are clear ones and some are reflective ones. then the way the balconies are made makes the sun reflect on the panes differently so well. looks like watery effect. they also count in the degree of which the sun rays hit the building you know. 75 deg for this one.
when its complete its supposed to look like this. we talked to the architects who designed this. oh and you know what it overlooks millenium park
whatever you see above used to be a golf course. this park down there is actually all the way down from where we were standing what... a 4 storey drop? its infront of that aqua building
yup thats our group on a chilly sunny day
then we walked to millenium park again and we had the structures and art pieces explained to us. the theater? the sound system is pretty amazing. some of the speakers give out black noise to cancel out the outside noise and all that stuff i never paid attention to in physics class.
first clay court i ve ever been close to
lookie down there. its a car park!
yea windy city full of tall buildings. amazing engineering
kid looking up at the bean
edine and heather
theater +field + cool sound system. some say the sound system here is better than the one at the opera house *shrugs* they have free performances on friday nights.
we got to walk on the BP bridge *ahem* its closed during winter because.. the people who designed this didnt think when they made the wooden plank walkway because the snow builds up on the bridge which is over the road.. the spaces between the planks mean that when they shovel the snow the snow drops onto the road. so they just close it during winter.
below is my favorite building.. the chase building. its slanting, curving so when you lean up against one wall and look up it looks like this:
saw the curve? haha .below is some sculpture. you get more points if you design buildings where they have more space and art pieces. this is at the post office. took this because of the reflection in the window and theres a mini piece inside the post office. tripled structure.

owh and whoever goes to chicago HAS to try this. its the best pop corn ever! 4.90 for a mixed bag but its really really really tasty
above is picasso's design. he gave it to chicago when some guy tried to kau him and started giving him loads of presents. bribery wei.. =___= so neway picasso handed over his design so the people could weld this together. i think it looks like that egyptian god of death - Anubis
anyway so at night my bar-loving caucasian friends wanted to go to the signature room up on the hancock tower. i went there, foudn out you had to be 21 and went to the cheese cake factory with heather instead and tara and kris joined us for cake later on. below is inside the elevator. pretty neat.
well. thats us. im glad i got to know them better esp tara and kris.
